A good time for a hurricane

How many Republicans were pleased to hear about the Hurricane approaching New Orleans because it would mean George W Bush would not be addressing the Republican Convention in Minneapolis ?

McCain's whole campaign is based on him not being like George Bush, and any reminders of how close they are politically would not have helped his campaign.

A fitting tribute to George W Bush

I have to say that I cannot think of anything more fitting as a tribute to George W Bush than THESE plans to name a sewage treatment plant after him.

It begs the question, what could we name after Gordon Brown when he goes ?

George W Bush highlights yet again what an absolute arse he is

George W Bush, in an effort to show solidarity with the troops whose lives he put in danger, said today that he too had made sacrifices because of the war in Iraq.

Yes, apparently to show solidarity he has given up golf.

I know, sometimes words simply cannot do justice.

The "last man standing" principle of victory, according to George Bush

Good news everyone. George W Bush has announced the "victory" in Iraq today ! Let's put out the flags and bunting and celebrate this joyous victory of good over evil ! Right ? Well, of course not.

This latest announcement of victory comes only five years after George W Bush first announced victory in Iraq, just before the insurgency got in to full swing. So his success record on claiming victories is not exactly stunning.

Of course this was a war that America could not really lose, given Iraq's tiny population and America's vast armed forces, but America has clung on in Iraq due to enormous stubbornness from George W Bush whilst tens of thousands of Iraqis have died due to the abysmal way Mr Bush and his cronies have mismanaged the US army, the various strategies and the money.

The truth is that despite claims that the US troop surge was the turning point, the real reason the US has not been beaten in Iraq is more down to an absolute fatigue amongst the various militias and the insurgency. The fact that Moqtada Al Sadr has had his Mehdi Army on ceasefire for six months is more significant than any increase in US troop numbers.

Whilst Bush might want the world to believe the US won a war, in many ways the insurgency was and still is a war of America's own making.

The truth is that thousands of US soldiers, coalition forces and Iraqis have died in order to allow George W Bush to get revenge for his father not getting Saddam in 1990. In many ways though the victory should be remembered much in the same way as the so called victories in World War One, with phyrric victories being based on capturing ten yards of land and having five more men left standing at the end of the battle than the enemy has.

George, have your "last man standing" victory if you want. For the rest of us, we will still remember Iraq as a disaster of your making.

Bush defends "water boarding"

In an interview with the BBC featured on the BBC Ten O'clock news, George Bush maintained his support for the torture/interrogation technique known as water boarding.

The problem is, you just know he is actually thinking about this

rather than this.

Update : Jailhouse Lawyer has something amusing to say on this topic too.

I don't see Tony Blair as a religious nut, its much worse than that

All this talk on the BBC website and blogs about Blair and his relgious views somewhat miss the point. I don't think his religious views are the problem.

The problem with Blair, and his legacy will be that he will go down in history as a warmonger, a liar and has the blood of tens of thousands on his hands. Which ever god he believes in, he'll need to pray for the rest of his life to avoid hell being his final destination.

At least he'll be there with George W Bush and Saddam Hussein. What a chat that will be !

Damning with feint praise

I was fasciniated to read a quotation of what Arnold Schwarzenegger said about George W Bush when he was interviewed by GQ magazine,

Asked how he rates President George W Bush, Mr Schwarzenegger replied: "I would say that I was... very fond of his father. I worked for President Bush Sr and he was a great man.
"I think his son does some great things and there are some other things I don't agree with."

I think that tells us everything we need to know.

Being compared with Michael Moore !

I am honoured today to have found a blog which has linked to my article on George Bush, and also linked to Michael Moore (yes, the loud shouty fat American one who I actually quite like), with the quote

"Here's a couple of people who say all this better than me."

I know, some people would take being likened to Michake Moore as an insult, but as he is always on my holiday reading list I am rather pleased.

So many thanks to More Chips With Gravy On My Shoulder for what I will see as a compliment.

A short history lesson for George Bush

George Bush, a man not know for his grasp of history, spoke today comparing Vietnam with Iraq and yet again highlighted his general ignorance of history and events.

America, he claims, withdrew from Vietnam too soon. Astonishingly Bush has no concept of the fact that the US military was fully aware by about 1968 that the US was unable to achieve a military victory in Vietnam. Very few parts of Vietnam were without some kind of warfare whilst on the home front in America the majority of the US population were firmly against the Vietnam war.

George Bush then goes on to say that the American withdrawal from Vietnam led to the suffering of other nations in the region. In particular he cites Cambodia as an example. Bush said
"Whatever your position in that debate, one unmistakable legacy of Vietnam is that the price of America's withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens," Mr Bush said, mentioning reprisals against US allies in Vietnam, the displacement of Vietnamese refugees and the massacres in Cambodia under Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge.

What George W Bush conveniently forgets is that Cambodia had been happily neutral until pressure was put on the Cambodians by the US. Prince Sihanouk was threatened by the US and effectively allowed his own country to be bombed by the US to dislodge Viet Cong forces in the heavily forested border area. Prince Sihanouk was himself deposed by pro-American general Lon Nol. The country's borders were closed, and the U.S. and South Vietnamese forces launched attacks in to Cambodia to attack Viet Cong bases and buy time for South Vietnam. The coup against Sihanouk and U.S. bombing, destabilized Cambodia, and increased support for the Khmer Rouge, which in turn led to the Khmer Rouge taking over.

So the USA's own actions prior to their withdrawal from Vietnam was where the responsibility for the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror stemmed from.

Of course Bush conveniently forgets also that it was Communist run Vietnam that eventually invaded Cambodia and kicked out the Khmer Rouge. Conveniently forgotten ? Just bloody ignorant ? Or simply a liar ? Take your pick. I'd say Bush is all three.

Finally Bush said

"Just like in Vietnam, if we pull out (of Iraq) too soon, this enemy will follow us home"

Just what enemy followed the US home after 1975 ? Lying, spreading fear and misleading Americans is just a habit Bush cannot give up. I know a few years ago Bush gave up Alcohol. I guess there is no chance of him giving up lying.

People are unfair to George W Bush

I've heard it said and seen it read that George W Bush has the blood of Iraqis on his hands and that his policies are concerned only with America, and he cares little about anyone outside of America.

Quite clearly this is incorrect.

he also has the blood of Americans on his hands and he also cares just as little for American lives as he does for anyone else's life in any other part of the world. After all, why would he allow a law to lapse that prevented the purchase of automatic weapons.

With regular school shootings every six months or so, the death toll under George W Bush as a result of his policies is getting higher and higher.
