Haringey Labour Party's website has gone offline apparently due to their incompetence. Yes, it seems that they failed to properly register their domain name.

Why is a Tory blogger praising the Lib Dems and a Lib Dem blogger praising the Tories ?
A few weeks ago I was asked by Iain Dale to submit my 8 wishes for 2008. Amongst them I said that I wanted Justin Hinchcliffe (aka Hunter and Shooter) to say something nice about the Lib Dems. I then tagged Justin to continue the wishes for 2008 and and he asked for me to be nice about David Cameron.
So it was odd, and completely uncoordinated and unplanned that yesterday I should write this offering some praise to the Tories plans, whilst Justin wrote this in praise of the Lib Dems.
A thaw in relations ? Not likely, I still think "Dave" is shallow, vacuous, and full of spin.
Happy New Year Justin.

My 8 wishes for 2008 - Iain Dale's Meme
I received an e-mail this morning from Iain Dale telling me "You've been fingered", fortunately, the sentence went on to add "to take part in my meme about your 8 wishes for 2008".
So my wishes are
1) For Everton to win the a cup (UEFA, Carling or FA Cup).
2) Norwich City to survive in the Championship and be in the top three by next Christmas.
3) The Lib Dems to be consistently polling 20%+.
4) For my blog to have doubled its daily number of visitors.
5) For Justin Hinchcliffe to write something nice about the Lib Dems.
6) For all British forces to be out of Iraq.
7) To stil have no grey hair by the end of 2008 (I am 37 next month and still have no grey !)
8) To have found a genuinely useful application or use for Facebook.
So there we have it. An eclectic mix of self interest, vanity and ignorance.
I now nominate Paul Walter - (aka Liberal Burblings), Cassilis, The Thunder Dragon, Harry Haddock (aka Nation of Shopkeepers) , Ordovicius and, breaking Iain Dale's rules that I should only nominate five other blogs, I'll nominate Justin Hinchcliffe (aka The Hunter and Shooter) to see is he can make one of my 8 wishes come true early.
Merry Christmas to all I have "tagged", but also to all bloggers I link to and anyone who reads this blog.

Hypocrisy in Leyton - From the Lib Dems ?
Many Lib Dems, including myself, have been quick to attack Labour for their support of a councillor Miranda Grell accused of homophobic campaigning, who has subsequently been found guilty in court and will, in due course, be stripped of her office.
However, how can the Liberal Democrats in Waltham Forest criticise the activities of the Labour Party there, particularly their continued support for Miranda Grell, when the Liberal Democrats continue to work with labour in a joint administration on the local council ?
If Labour are out of order in continuing to support Miranda Grell then the Lib Dems need to withdraw their support from Labour, surely ?
Certainly I find it hard to disagree with Justin Hinchliffe who makes the point in a comment HERE. We should have nothing to do with homophobes. If that means the Tories running the council, then so be it. We would not work with the BNP (racists) to keep the Tories out, so we should not work with homophobes to do the same.
Update : People are suggesting there is a distinction between the Labour Party and Miranda Grell. I would agree were it not for the fact that the labour Party as an organisation ,the local MP's, Nicky Gavron (deputy Mayor of London), are all standing by her.

You might say that. I couldn't possibly comment.
Many thanks to Justin Hinchcliffe, a Tory blogger I only occasionally agree with, but a blogger always worth reading because he has the almost unique position of being a Tory who is prepared to be critical of his own party, who has written an interesting piece in support of this blog, for which I thank him.
It seems that I am more popular with non Liberal Democrats than I am with Lib Dems, if nominations to the Lib Dem blogging awards are to be believed. According to the piece on Vox Politics on 18 Doughty Street last night, this blog came only 12th in the vote.
I guess I will have to wait and see whether I score higher in Iain Dale's own list, voted for by hundreds of bloggers of all party political affiliations and none.
In many ways, scoring higher in the other list (Iain Dale's) might be more of a success, although being liked and appreciated by your own colleagues is always appreciated, because I set this blog up to be something more than a Liberal Democrat mouthpiece. I wanted to praise politicians of any political colour when they do the right thing, I want to be critical of my own party when I feel they are heading in the wrong direction and I also hoped that people who are not Lib Dem would read my blog. In effect, I did not want to preach to the converted. Instead I wanted to be an active part of the conversion. If some Tories have read my blog and thought that there are some Lib Dems who are not obsessed with the "love in" over Europe, if there are some Labour voters who have read what I have written and agree that ID cards are bad and their own party is wrong on that issue, then I have succeeded in a way that makes any placing on a list of nominees for best blog seem very unimportant.
Of course, that's not to say I am not disappointed not to have made the shortlist, of course I am. But if doing so means that I need to be less critical less independent, then I'll happily miss out.
I ahve to say that some of the shortlisted five for best blog are are absolutely top class blogs that any party would be proud of and I wish all the shortlisted nominees a warm congratulations for their efforts and their success, which is hard earned and fully justified.
