One thing is clear from the Tory blogs, Osborne did not do well in the Chancellor's debate

Looking through the main Tory blogs tonight, not one posting has been done after the Chancellors debate on Channel Four.

Now if Osborne had done well or even slightly well, the Tories would have been crowing about it. Their silence speaks volumes about Osborne's performance.

Bit difficult to write something about a debate I didn't see, as I was compering a political quiz!

I gather Michael Crick said Osborne won.

I love the way Tory responders are saying Vince is `populist` - yeh, like they never are!

It seems clear that Crick is the only person who thinks Osborne won. It does make you question Crick's judgement that independent panels and viewer votes say the opposite of what he says.

Lots of good evidence here about who won

Andrew Pierce on GMTV says Cable won. The body language expert too on the show also said Vince Cable came out on top.

For all those saying Crick put Osborne as the winner, you are leaving off the point he made about the low expectations people had about him and how he won in comparison to those.

ie, he didn't fall over, sneer at anyone or call the audience oiks.

You must be so proud.

It seems to me that everyone thinks their own parties mouthpiece won. Hardly surprising really. Why don't we wait and see how the polls react in a day or so (if they do at all).

Crick originally said that Osbore lost or came third. In any event, the Tories lost on the Ch4 debate and then lost again on Newsnight.

Nothing new came out.
I've heard it all before.

I was surprised by how enjoyable and interesting it was. The hour flew past.

And I marked Vince as the winner.

At times I thought Osborne looked like that bloke who turned up for a job interview at Broadcasting House, and ended up on live TV answering questions on an IT takeover. Headlights. Rabbit.

Someone will have to get Iain one of those new fangled recorder device thingeys or even show him how to use Sir Tim Berners-Lee devilishly clever interweb whatnot.

Paul, v clever. Sadly I was staying in a hotel on Monday night. I tried to watch it on the C4 play again facility, but it wasn't available.

I thought Osbourne did far better than expected after all he did set the agenda.

That's damning with feint praise.

It's like saying I thought the meal looked like it was going to taste disgusting, but actually it was edible.
