I have a new car. It is another Skoda, this time a Skoda Yeti 4WD.
Whilst people might question why I am buying aq 4WD, I simply point out that my wife has to drive cross country to work, barely using any A or B roads and for my job, my school
never closes, no matter what the weather. We were in school last week when all other schools were closed. So with both my wife and I needing to be able to get to work, we need a car that is capable of getting from A to B as ,to put it mildly, the weather last week did not make it easy at all.
Whilst people will question my eco credentials, I would simply point out that I do less than 6,000 miles a year and my new car will average more than 40 miles to the gallon.
Now all I have to do is work out how all the gadgets work.

Why do you feel the need to defend this decision? It's a personal choice.
there are virtually no roads in Norfolk that you need a 4x4 to drive on, in any weather. You just need to know how to drive in the snow - those years when it does actually lie on the roads for more than two hours anyway.
if you like it though, that's fine.
I beg to differ about the roads. My own road still has ice on it and is difficult.
Perhaps I just needed to declare an interest. It sort of goes against the grain for me, but I like the car and to heel witrh it. You are right, I sholdn't have to defend myself.
Good choice Nich, and I have been on plenty of Norfolk roads that would have been been driven in a 4x4.
Nothing wrong with your choice at all.
I bought a Honda 4x4, not for its traction capabilities, but because it was a car which didn't exacerbate my back problems. Nevertheless, on a couple of occasions when parked I local supermarket car parks, I had abusive leaflets stuck on the car by the stupid greens saying that it was unnecessary and various other things. What does anyone know about why another person considers something to be necessary?
Free country? Not if these extremists have their way.
And it did come in useful this winter!
I appreciate your choice but do they have a diesel - 60mpg + on a long run. I fill mine up and think - can I get Inverness? Drove to Koblenz last year - 500 miles - only had to fill up for the return journey.
