France following form

Apparently France are threatening a walk out from the G20 summit in London.

It wouldn't be the first time the French have made an untimely and unwanted exit from a major world event. I seem to recall they did it in 1940 too !

The French regard the BEF's withdrawal to the Channel and the Dunkirk evacuation as an untimely and unwanted exit from a major world event. As they then endured four years of Nazi Occupation /Vichy Collaboration they might find your comment rather offensive. Perhaps you might visit Oradour-sur-Glane where a whole village was murdered by German troops in reprisal for a resistance attack originating from another village called Oradour. No one was able to walk out from there.

Can we now have either of the following:

1. The crack about the reverse gears on Italian tanks

or

2. The text of Nich's M.A. dissertation on the events of late Spring, 1940?

Otherwise, this post seems to belong to today (April 1st).

And, yes, Gallimaufry, we have done Oradour-sur-Glane. Alas, it was one of far too many.

Should have thought about that when they surrendered because they didn't want Paris destroyed

I think the French forget that tens of thousands of Frnech soldiers also left Dunkirk in British ships.

The French like to use Dunkirk as a fall back ecuse for their own failings.

Etymology Dictionary: the word "coward" comes from an Old French word coart (modern French couard), a combination of the word for "tail" and an agent noun suffix. It would therefore have meant "one with a tail" — perhaps one in the habit of turning it, or it may be derived from the dog's habit of putting its tail between its legs when it is afraid.
