Why should it take a "balls up" for Ed Balls to finally do the right thing

It appears that the inability to find a company willing to take on the administration and marking of the SATs tests after the "balls up" the government made in awarding the contract to a useless American company with a track record of errors and major mistakes behind them, might finally mean the end of SATs tests in the UK.

The government and the minister Ed Balls are apparently looking at a new form of assessment more suited to pupils and less obsessed with league tables.

Anyone who works in education will tell you that SATs test give you figures that are measurable, but ultimately unimportant, and that is the problem with almost all government league tables and statistics. So and end to SATs tests would be very welcome.
