My week in media

I've been tagged by Iain Dale for a new meme to tell you what I have been doing this week via the media that I use or view.

What I've read
I am not a great reader, perhaps because of my school work and always having to read up on things I find reading a chore unless I am next to a pool in boiling hot sun with a cool beer in Greece or Mexico, then i can't put a book down. So if you are asking what i am reading this holiday it is "100 Maths Lessons - The New Numeracy Framework". It's a great book for explain the structure and organisation of lessons using the new framework, but not recommended reading for non teachers. Aside from that I read the Eastern Daily Press (when my wife buys a copy), but aside from that I get my news of the internet.

What I've watched
I've watched a lot of Christmas telly. Loved Extras, Catherine Tate and unlike Iain Dale, thought To The Manor Born was fine in that I remember what it was like first time round and nothing seemed to have changed. I was pleased to see ITV actually made an effort this Christmas and watched Christmas at the Riviera, which was okay and Harry Hill's TV burp, which is hilarious each and every time.

When it comes to soaps, I watch just one, Eastenders, which has been superb for the last few months. The storylines over the last week have been great, and what is often overlooked is the superb acting. Kevin Wicks death last night was really moving and beautifully acted.

The great thing for me now is that I never miss programmes I want to see and I never watch things I am not interested in. Why is this ? I have Sky +, which I couldn't be without. So it has meant this week I have finally been able to see the last three episodes of Heroes, which I thought was terrific (and I am not a fan of US television as a rule), and have also caught up with some older editions of Ramsay's kitchen knightmares too.

What I've listened to
Radio 5, generally, and not a lot of music. We do have a couple of DAB radios, which means that my wife does often tune in to some obscure music station that plays cheesy pop, but generally these days I don't listen to a lot of music.

What I have surfed
The BBC website, a first stop for me every day and also http://www.toffeeweb.com/, which as as god an independent fan site as you will find for any club. It is full of Everton links and keeps me in touch with the real news, match reports and gossip.

Other news sites I visit daily are Guardian Unlimited, The Telegraph and The Times. My favourite bloggers in the last week are Iain Dale, Justin Hinchcliffe, Linda Jack, Paul Walter, Grendel and Some Random Thoughts, who by complete co-incidence will be the people I will not tag to carry on this meme.

Is this the 'New' framework that came out a few years ago and has driven standards in maths relentlessly upwards?

No. That was the National numeracy Strategy, this is the new version of the NNS, which has now been scrapped.
