Made in China

When I was a child if something broke someone always used to say "it was probably made in Taiwan or Hong Kong". Now these two territories are synonymous with high end electronics, and high build quality and, it appears, that China has taken over the mantle of cheap and nasty.

In the last 36 hours we have seen news that Chinese made batteries are overheating in Nokia phones, poisonous paint has been used on Mattel toys and now parts fall off Asda products.

Perhaps it is all part of China's sinister plot to take over the world. They mean to burn us, choke us and poisonous by stealth.

Don't forget the cheap non-stick frying pans from Tesco which are made in China and are not non-stick at all and what's worse the paints peels off them. I wonder if they used lead paint?

Neo-protectionist hysteria.

I trust you are being ironic or are you seeking to wind me up?

On a more serious note, there are clear issues of concern here but we should be careful not to blow this out of proportion. Suggest you read my post on this issue on www.liberallegend2.blogspot.com
