MP's back 100% elected chamber

Great news from parliament, and even Lembit couldn't use his vote to scupper this one (as he did in 1999). A 100% elected Lords/Second chamber looks very likely now and we await the full government recommendation and final act.

Well done to all MP's who supported this.

Read th BBC about it HERE.

I think he was one of two lib Dems who failed to support an elected chamber last time it was voted on, and I think if he and the other Lib Dem had supported it then it would have been past. I could be wrong though.

This is getting a bit worrying. Another thing we agree on...

I've always believed the Lords should be 75% elected and 25% appointed. This way the democratic legitimacy of our beloved Commoners would not be undermined. The 25% appointed would be drawn from a list of 1,000 names put together every four years by a truly independent body looking for experience and expertise in numerous fields. Every four years on television we would then have The National Lord Lottery Live in order to randomly select the Lords required. This would be presented by Dale Winton wearing a smoking jacket and a large pair of pink bunny rabbit carpet slippers. This, in turn, would help to clean up British politics by bringing a new meaning to the phrase 'Let's Spin 'Em'.
