Not a policy likely to win friends in Glasgow ...

I see Dave is planning permits for producers of fatty foods. Read about it HERE.

I always read and hear Tories going on about "the nanny state", but this is obsessive. Having a permit for fatty foods is hardly going to endear Mr Cameron to fish and chip shop owners in Glasgow who have been known to deep fry Mars bars.

I guess though that the Tories have few votes to lose there !

Groan!

I know you linked to a BBC story 'confirming' it but in my limited, anecdotal experience it remains largely an urban myth - I live and work in central Scotland and have never seen one for sale or heard of anywhere that sells them.

I doubt anywhere has them formally on the menu although I'm sure some places will do one if asked by a customer - I prefer to think of that as evidence of our entrepreneurial flair rather than our poor diet!

I'm off to look for some poorly observed cliche about English culture...!

I thought someone would say its al an urban myth so I thought I'd better have some evidence to back up more views.

I will admit though tha thte picture is Australian. Proabably a Scot over there !

Welcome to Blogpower, NB and check the Blogfocus tonight. Have a fried Mars Bar while you're at it. Fried Mars Bar? Er ... wouldn't it melt, sort of?

I've seen deep fried mars bars... they melt, but inside the batter...
And deep fried pizza... *shudders*

Not sure if they're advertised much, but places will do them for you...

As for this proposal - isn't that kind of nannying? Thought the Tories were against that? Then again, chocolate oranges...

I have a post on my blog about a shop in Stonehaven, that has a sign boasting of being home to the deep fried mars bar. I even found a site with the recipe to do it at home. My brother, who lives just down the road in Montrose, can vouch for their existence. The key is to freeze them before deep frying.
