Nobody wanted local police forces to merge. Most local forces didn't want it, police authorities largely didn't want it, local councils didn't want it and neither did the electorate.
So Labour force it on us anyway, make the local Police Authorities pay for it then fail to re-imburse them when the government decide not to go ahead with at after all. So unless you live in a handful of counties (not Norfolk unfortunately), the government payout does not cover the costs incurred so far !
Your couldn't make this farce up, but it is us who will pay for it through our council tax next year, and no doubt local councillors will have to take the blame yet again for something the Labour Government froced on us !
