Having been forced to go to my local Tesco Metro, I am convinced that there is something missing. That something is the phrase "Special Offer".Normally, when you go to Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, etc, aisles are festooned with "Special Offer" or "Buy one get one free" signs. However Tesco Metro seems to be an offer-free zone. Why is this ?
Is it because Tesco feel they have a captive Market ? Tesco is after all the only grocery shop in my village. If so, it highlights just what a danger Tesco pose as they now have approaching one third of the grocery market in the UK.
I have a friend who lives in Hove who told me about her local Tesco which did all it could to undercut local retailers until the local retailers went oput of business. Of course, after the competition was gone, Tesco altered their pricing whilst in Stalham (North Norfolk) Tesco must be delighted to see so many local businesses close since they came to town. A real sht in the arm (or head) for the local economy !
We await to see the effect Tesco will have on Fakenham. If it is a positve one, I won't be hte only one who is surprised !

Ah, something on which we can agree! We have an excellent Tesco Metro at the end of our street and it has so few offers. The Tesco a couple of miles away is swamped in them!
Yep, Metro do charge more. If you get a chance compare the basics and you'll find the prices differ. I'm sure I read some years ago that Tesco claim it's to do with the overheads.
Much as I personally dislike Tesco, they all do this. Check next time you have the opportunity to choose between a Co-op SwiftShop/LateShop and a Co-op conventional supermarket.
However, when one takes over a local grocer, one might expect that one of the benefits that might bring would be the sort of price reductions you might find in that chain's bigger stores.
Dare I point out that blogs like this seriously suggest that Liberal Democrats do not live in the real world at all but have just swanned in from some alien planet. I know "normal for Norfolk" is a hurtful phrase intended to be derogatory and insulting, but maybe it's the only explanation for observations so many years behind the ball.
I note I received sensible comments from those who logged in with a real identity, and a silly comment from someone with a made up identity.
He/She suggest that Lib Dems do not live in the real world for suggesting that Tesco are ripping people off. I might suggest back that to deny that Tesco do this is to live in a world which differs from the one that everyone else has to put up with.
Quite why my comments are behind the times is something of a mystery to me.
I'm sure your bosses at Tesco will be very proud of your comments. You can show them tomorrow.
You're absolutely right. Crouch End had no Tesco. Then a Tesco Metro arrived (with offers). Then local gorcery businesses and newsagents (one had been est for over 30 years) started closing and the Tesco Extra offers disappeared with them. Was that enough? No, Tesco open another Extra store around the corner (literally) in Hornsey (also with no offers). What will happen now? Thank you Tesco Extra for spoiling Crouch End. In Germany none of these buy one get one free etc offers are permitted as they distort the reality of pricing and therefore are contrary to customers' best interests.
