More religious hypocrisy

I am not opposed to religion and those who follow a religion. I am, however, bitterly opposed to religion mixing with politics, and as an agnostic, I am constantly amazed by the inconsistencies of different religions in the way they deal with each other, they way they behave to their own followers, and the way they seek to demonise and lecture people as we are all told to conform to their views, largely based on a 2000 year old text.

As we all know, the Roman Catholic Church goes on about the right to life. However, as we all know, this obsession is strictly limited and controlled by the Roman Catholic church's own doctrines and prejudices. For example, supporting people in Africa having the right to life by providing condoms so they can avoid HIV, and an untimely death, is not something the Roman Catholic church supports.

So I am grateful to MalcintheBurgh for drawing my attention to the latest hypocrisy from the Roman Catholic church.

It seems that the Vatican, as its role as a nation state represented at the UN, is not going to support a resolution which calls for the end of the criminalisation of homosexuality. Of course, the RC church knows that in some countries this criminality is also an offence which can be given the death penalty, so the Vatican had a chance here to really stand up for people's right to live, but sadly the Pope does not feel that this is something he can support.

So the next time we are lectured on the right to life by the Catholic church, just ask them where they were when they had the chance to vote on really saving lives.

There will be those who will jump in and accuse my of religious bias here. They can if they want, but I am of no religion and have friends of many religions. They, including many Catholics (and at least two gay Catholics), would be embarrassed by the RC church's stand on this issue. I point out hypocrisy wherever it is found, and no area should be immune from that scrutiny,

I’m disappointed that my church is not dealing with persecution and discrimination of homosexuals – still I’m disappointed that my country still has discrimination against Catholics built into its constitution.

Neil you say, you are " …bitterly opposed to religion mixing with politics" but in this case you mixing politics and religion, the Vatican (which is a polis), is acting in its role as a nation state at the UN, not as a religion.

I understand that nation state thing (Treaty of Locarno - I studied it), but it is a religious state, much like Mecca or Amritsar bvecoming nation states. It is also not a democracy, which is another matter.
