Iain Dale's blog points to a poll which shows Andrew Neil is the favoured choice to take over Question Time from David Dimblebore. Are these people off their heads ?
Andrew Neil spoils any show he touches. Neil thinks he is funny and plays to this, completely unaware of the fact that he is somewhat fawning, sycophantic to some whilst being outright rude to others whist seeming unable to hide his own Tory bias.
If the BBC want to re-energise Question Time, and boy does it need a new lease of life, then Andrew Neil is not the answer.
Borrowing and altering a famous quote, if Andrew Neil is the answer, what the hell is the question ?

Tory bias on the bbc? very good I haven't laffed so much for ages. Agree with your other points tho he's not the right person for QT, it has to be Paxo.
No, we aren't off our heads. We just think Neil is a blessed relief from and a small counterbalance to the more usual. left wing bias amongst BBC employees. When the Beeb starts putting some of its recruitment advertising in the Telegraph as well as the Guardian we might reconsider.

I say pick Neil. If indeed he does have a whiff of blue bias about him, that still goes nowhere near balancing up the BBC as a whole.

Whenever Andrew Neill hosts a programme he always seems to think that he's the one people are watching it for, not the guests. And his bias always shows through.
Jennie - I know what you are saying, but I think Martha Kearney is the one.. She is brill on current affairs, and has that twinkly eyed pizzazz which Toksvig possesses [as evidenced by her stints on Newsnight Review]. Oh, and she is 'sex on a stick'.

In many ways the fact that he is biased towards the Tories is the least of his faults, its the fact that he believes himself to be a comedy genius mixed with an intellectual genius, when sadly he is neither.
He's not as bad as some are making out. His blue bias isn't as bad as it looks on This Week - but with two raving liberals sitting opposite him, anything slightly more (small c) conservative is going to show up.
Not saying he'd be the best choice, though. What's Kilroy up to?!?
