Who do you think you are warming to Boris Johnson ?

I was somewhat reluctant to sit down and watch Who do you think you are on BBC1 last night when I realised it was Borat Johnson that was the subject of the programme. It's not just Boris/Borat and his fluffed up, dragged through a hedge backwards look that I find annoying, its his politics. However, I put all my bile to one side and watched the show, and I was really jolly glad I did.

Boris has, as it turns out, a fascinating family history, a Turkish great Grandfather murdered by Kemal Attaturk, whilst going back further his family descend from the German Royalty and before that, British Royalty too.

But what surprised me most was that I warmed to Boris Johnson. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't vote for him, but he was the perfect subject for this show, a good linguist and showed a real depth of knowledge that supported the shows research.

Now is their an antidote to warming to Boris ?

I actually just found him really annoying. All that blustering irritated me. And the faux defence of his great grandfather was unnecessary. Obviously he was just doing what he thought best; most people do.

I thought the same:

Politically I bang my head against a wall at some of the things Boris says and does. Maybe even more so than I do when it comes to David Cameron. But I still cannot help but have a strange affection for Boris. Given this and knowing my hard nosed stance on most things Nich, there surely cannot be an antidote. Sorry. :)

There isn't one. That's why people, rich or poor, like him.

Politics aside, he's intelligent, charming, funny and kind so I guess the antidote would be a blend of stupidity, charmlessness, witlessness and meanness. Picture yourself as Alistair Darling, that should do it. Or you could stick with the most common antidote, envy. That seems to work fine.

Most of us maintain a chippy aversion to Cameron, but we can’t help warming to eccentrics - entertainers. That’s why the lad was able to take London.

Tom, you forget to mention he's also a serial shagger, a liar, slags off various parts of the country without any real knowledge and keeps some very odd company.

Interestingly this series is a re-run and was first shown long before any talk of him becoming London Mayor.

P.S. Replace "...various parts of the country..." in the prev comment with pretty much any subject and you describe the majority of policitians / bloggers. Oh, and commenters... :)

P.P.S. Pretty sure that I know that commenters ain't the correct collective noun but, hey ho, it is a Friday afternoon.
