After today's disastrous turn of events for the party and for Chris Huhne's campaign, some people are suggesting it is all over. However, I still think Chris can show some metal and retrieve things.
If Chris sacks, fires or removes whoever was responsible for the "Calamity Clegg" dossier passed to the BBC, it will draw a line under things and show people that we do not accept this kind of campaigning and it will show Chris has the backbone to be leader.
Come on Chris. The clock is ticking.

Huhne came over as a complete bully today. Instead of apologising when confronted with the document, he went off into an unstoppable rant. It was embarrassing.

Have you read the "apology" and explanation on Huhne's website? It raises more questions than it answers. Here are a couple of them:

What's wrong with the candidates trying to rile each other? Huhne has always been playing catchup and he isn't going to let Clegg get off easily. Having said that, I agree that any serious smear campaigns will look extremely bad for the Lib Dems.
Far from doing the sensible thing and killing the dossier quietly, Huhne wants to publish it!
Frankly how can he deny knowing anything about it and then want to publish it?
'Catastrophe Clegg' is available [without the title, which perhaps was added by the mischief maker who leaked it] for all to read at: http://www.order-order.com/2007/11/at-last-little-bit-of-excitement-has.html thanks to Guido - where would we be without him? It is interesting: it is a pity that this spat may allow Clegg to get away with not answering the points made.
