Remembering Birmingham Hodge Hill - Absolutely stunning hypocrisy from Labour Minister Liam Byrne

Liam Byrne should hang in his head in shame tonight after being fined £100 for driving whilst using a mobile phone, and not just for committing this crime.

Everyone ought to remember the disgusting personal campaign that was run by Liam Byrne's campaign team in the Birmingham Hodge Hill by-election only a few months before the last general election to see what an utter hypocrite he is.

Labour's campaign in Hodge Hill turned from being about real issues in to a campaign about one thing, and that was Labour's attempts to smear lib Dem candidate Nicola Davies, whose job was to work for the mobile phone companies. Labour dubbed her "Nokia" Davies, and claimed she was obsessed with getting mobile phone masts built across the constituency and used the mobile phone health concerns (the very health concerns that Labour health Ministers deny exist) to attack Nicola again and again.

It is worth remembering too, as the BBC website points out "He once told a parliamentary committee that the most dangerous drivers were "serial potential killers" and said he was "shocked" at the leniency of sentences handed down to them."

So for Liam Byrne's campaign to accuse the Lib Dem candidate of having an obsession with mobile phones only for him to be so obsessed himself with using them that he would break the law and show he is a "potential serial killer" shows absolutely stunning hypocrisy. An apology is due, but it will never happen.

"An apology is due, but it will never happen".

As I understand it, it is reported that he states he apologized to the court.

Still, I agree with you. Perhaps, he should sharpen the blade of his sword and promptly fall upon it?

There again, the blade is more than likely to be deflected by striking the mobile phone in his pocket...
