European Union must expand beyond Europe - Confused ?

The government are quick to attack and blame teachers for the inability of people to learn things at school. However, I feel someone should hold their hands up and admit they taught David Miliband geography.

You see, the Foreign Secretary wants the European Union (and I should stress the key word here is European) to expand beyond Europe. Get it ? I don't think I do.

Whatever next. Will David Miliband be proposing that The Northern Hemisphere be expanded to include the Southern Hemisphere ? Perhaps England could become part of South America for football qualification purposes. Alternatively why not suggest that East Anglia should include Truro ?

I guess it makes a change from the Tories suggesting we should become the 51st State of America.

I am still struggling to understand why your site doesn't recognise me as a fellow blogger........however. I agree with you, first Israel appeared in the Eurovision Song Contest, now they are in the European Cup............doh........did I miss something?

Could you name a single Tory who has seriously suggested this?

I seem to recall John Redwood suggestig a few years ago that we could join NAFTA. I have heard this also proposed by other Tories. Not the same, but I was stretching the truth somewhat.

Linda, now added. Sorry. I am always happy to add links to those blogs I like and to (virtually) anyone who links to me, so long as they are racist or homophobic.

Anyway, sorted now Linda.

I think there's a "not" missing somewhere...

Turkey in the EU - contentious issue? Those of a geographical bent will point out that only 5% of the country can be term, in geographical terms, 'european'.

I'm glad you have raised the matter because I thought I was dreaming when I heard this. Yes, I'd love to know who taught DM geography!

Sorry I don't get this. A name is just a name, it shouldn't be an obstacle to doing the right thing.

I'm not suggesting that any non-European states come to mind as potential members, but I don't have any objection in principle.

French Guyana, anyone?

Paul. Well spotted. Yes indeed, a "NOT" is missing. In order to make it clear, I will NOT link to anyone who is racist of homophobic.

Frencj Guyana is not a country. It is aprovince of France, which is, in itself, a part of Europe.

Like Turjey, Russia is also a part of Europe so I am confused that David miliband wants to expand beyond Europe by having Russia join. Its much like asking Norwich to be part of East Anglia. It already is !

Joe Otten said...

French Guyana is part of France and the EU, but it is not part of Europe.

So much for the name.

Nich Starling said...

So it is a part of a country that is in Europe. What is your point ?

Joe Otten said...

...that the EU already isn't entirely European.

Nich Starling said...

But every STATE that is in the EU is territorially part of Europe.
