It is interesting to see just how some towns in Norfolk, despite their best efforts, always have some oddball who is willing to tar everyone in the town with the same brush by acting in as odd a way as you could imagine. In this case, it is a Dereham "thief" who has been at it.
Norfolk Police were advising staff in businesses in the Dereham area to be on the look out for someone who has been stealing ladies underwear from washing lines. Police have asked people to be vigilant and report anyone seen acting suspiciously.
I'm sure there is a joke to be made about the fact that if everyone phoned the police each time they saw someone acting suspiciouly in Dereham then the Police would have to make hundreds of arrests, but then I would just be showing my pro Fakenham bias.
Of course, and on a serious note, it is easy to make light of a matter like this, but the fact is that there is some odd person in the Dereham area trampling through people's gardens, unnerving people, worrying the elderly and those living alone and generally being a nuisance.
My advice to the thief if he (you've got to assume it is a he) is reading, is top it, grow up and if you are deperate for knickers, buy your ladies undies on EBAY if you are to embarrassed to go in to a shop and get them yourself.
