I am a member of the Liberal Democrats

I just thought I'd make it clear that I am a Liberal Democrat member. I am not ashamed or embarrassed by this fact and am happy to state it for anyone who wants to know.

Apparently though BNP members are not so keen to be open about their membership of their party.

Guilty secrets, shame, embarrassment or what ?

Isn't this fantastic? I searched the list for armed forces personnel and then email John Hutton to ask him what he intends to do about it...

Hopefully nothing, the BNP is a legal (if horrible) political party in the UK. While they are a legal party why should membership of said party be a block to public service _providing_ that any attitudes which will affect their performance of the job are left at the door.

Unless you're saying that the political views should be part of the interview process.

(For the record, not a member of any political party because I think they're all lying scum)

I'm not ashamed of my Lib Dem membership either, but I still wouldn't want my full name and address, occupation and names of my kids posted online without my consent. As long as the BNP are a legal political party, it seems to me their members are entitled to the same privacy as anyone else (and possibly even if they were banned, since we don't generally publish this level of detail even on convicted criminals).

The point is that that armed forces personnel are barred from membership of the BNP because of it's generally accepted racist views. Equally, members of the armed forces are barred from union membership.

Both of them are legal...

The shocking thing about the BNP is how many people would support them. I know someone, a first generation immigrant, who voted BNP! its mad.. but it does show some peoples dissatisfaction with the 3 main parties.

Add fear of intimidation and violence to that list, I would suggest.

Well don't join a party that has a history of its leading members being criminals, some with convictions for terror and explosive offences, then they shouldn't have a problem.
